Improve config performance

**Feature request**
It would be great to have logging for data.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_logging` with default `false`.

Start by locating the configuration handling and existing logging paths in the repository; the issue names no file, test, or entry point. Clarify what data must be logged and where it should appear, then define the default-disabled behavior and tests that demonstrate the requested production use case.
