Improve error messages in types

**Feature request**
It would be great to have export for services.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_export` with default `false`.

The issue names no files, tests, or entry points. Start by locating the configuration handling for the proposed `enable_export` option and trace how services are configured for production deployments. Done should include the option defaulting to `false` and the requested service export behavior, with coverage in the relevant tests if they exist.
