Handle edge cases in analytics

**Feature request**
It would be great to have encryption for config.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_encryption` with default `false`.

No file or test is named in the issue. Start by locating configuration parsing and deployment-related entry points, then check how existing secrets or sensitive values are handled. Done means a documented enable_encryption option defaults to false and config encryption works for the stated production use case with coverage for relevant edge cases.
