Improve error messages in controllers

**Feature request**
It would be great to have monitoring for utils.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_monitoring` with default `false`.

Start by locating the controllers and utils referenced in the issue, then inspect how configuration options are currently defined and consumed. Clarify what “monitoring for utils” should observe, how enable_monitoring=false should behave, and which tests should verify the production deployment use case.
