Improve services performance

**Feature request**
It would be great to have search for api.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_search` with default `false`.

The issue names no files, tests, or entry points. Start by locating the service configuration and API request-handling code, then trace how existing options are defined and tested. Done means API search is available when enable_search is true and remains disabled by the default false setting.
