Refactor components for better readability

**Feature request**
It would be great to have monitoring for core.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_monitoring` with default `false`.

The issue names no files, tests, or entry points. Start by locating the core configuration entry point and any existing monitoring paths, then determine what enable_monitoring controls. Done should include the option defaulting to false and a clear way to verify monitoring behavior for production deployments.
