Improve api performance

**Feature request**
It would be great to have logging for parsers.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_logging` with default `false`.

Start by locating the parser configuration and any existing logging or API performance entry points. Trace how configuration defaults are defined and how parsers run. Done means a new enable_logging option defaults to false and controls parser logging without changing behavior when disabled.
