Add configuration options for backup

It would be great to have analytics for lib.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_analytics` with default `false`.

Start by locating the configuration handling and the existing analytics-related entry point in lib. Resolve whether the requested change concerns backup or analytics, then determine the expected behavior for enable_analytics=false and how enabling it should be verified; the issue names no files or tests.
