Improve helpers performance

**Feature request**
It would be great to have logging for config.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_logging` with default `false`.

No files, tests, or entry points are named. Start by locating the configuration handling and helper code, then trace how production output is emitted; the work is done when an enable_logging option defaults to false and enables config logging when set.
