Add configuration options for export

**Feature request**
It would be great to have monitoring for lib.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_monitoring` with default `false`.

No files, tests, or entry points are named. First locate the configuration handling and the code related to export or monitoring, then clarify whether the requested work is export configuration or the proposed enable_monitoring option; done should include a documented default of false and verified monitoring behavior.
