Add configuration options for retry

**Feature request**
It would be great to have logging for data.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_logging` with default `false`.

No files or tests are named. Start by locating the existing configuration entry point and the logging path, then clarify which data should be logged. Done means a new enable_logging option defaults to false and reliably controls the requested logging behavior.
