Add TypeScript types for api

**Feature request**
It would be great to have sorting for handlers.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_sorting` with default `false`.

No files or tests are named. Start by locating the API handler configuration and existing TypeScript API type definitions, then determine where the enable_sorting option belongs and what handler ordering should mean. Done means the requested option and sorting behavior are documented and covered by the relevant tests.
