In Writing Custom Handlers doc, the Using API Log Message Handler section provides the configurations to enhance the velocity_template.xml to engage the custom handlers in the APIM server.
The velocity_template.xml is used to construct the API Synapse artifacts for the APIs, whereas the api_product_template.xml is used to construct the Synapse artifacts for the API Products.
Hence, adding a Note or an Info element in the doc specifying the correct templates will help for further reference.
