Description
A self-hosted site using Jetpack displays comments in the app that no longer exist on the site (they were deleted).
The comments are not in the WP Admin dashboard, or in Calypso or returned by the WordPress.com REST API.
Reinstalling the app made no difference.
This looks like a caching/syncing issue.

Research direction
Start by reproducing the deleted-comment state in the Android app for a self-hosted Jetpack site, then compare the app's results with WP Admin, Calypso, and the WordPress.com REST API. Review the related WordPress-iOS issue #9567 for context. Done means deleted comments no longer appear after syncing or reinstalling the app.
