Research direction

The issue names no files, tests, or entry points. Start by locating pane and persistent-session management, then determine the expected hide, restore, and accidental-kill behavior; done should mean long-running panes can be buried and brought back without terminating their sessions.

Describe the solution you'd like?
iTerm2 has the ability to bury (essentially hide) panes. This is super useful for long-running persistent sessions that you don't really need to see all the time (or worse accidentally kill).
