Description

Anchor positioning is great for positioning things relative to other elements. Sometimes, I want to position things next to the insertion caret though, for things like autocomplete suggestions in a large contenteditable element.

I'm not sure if this has been proposed before, but I think this might be a good fit for anchor positioning.

Research direction

Start with the CSS Anchor Positioning Level 2 proposal and the linked CSS UI insertion-caret definition. Investigate how an insertion caret could serve as an anchor for autocomplete suggestions in a contenteditable element. Done means producing a concrete specification proposal with its behavior and open questions resolved.
