Does a report exist for this bug with the project's home (upstream) and/or another distro?
No response
Expected behaviour
When you start the gsr-ui launch-hide-announce:
- You must be absent from the “input” group
- The program should show or hide its UI with its basic Left-alt+Z keybind without root.
Actual behaviour
Output: gsr-global-hotkeys error: failed to change user to root, global hotkeys will not work. Make sure to set the correct capability on gsr-global-hotkeys
It can't success even while I'm in input group.
.
Hotkeys doesn't respond or rather crashes the program if you try binding them through gsr-ui.
Steps to reproduce
- Cinnamon-6.6.7_1 or equal X11 session.
- Install elogind, GPU Screen Recorder and the UI package.
- Launch it and press Left-alt + Z.

Research direction
Start by reproducing gsr-ui launch-hide-announce in a Cinnamon X11 session with elogind installed, both inside and outside the input group. Inspect the Void package definitions for gpu-screen-recorder-ui and its gsr-global-hotkeys setup. Done means Left-Alt+Z shows or hides the UI without root, and binding hotkeys through gsr-ui no longer fails or crashes.
