Description

Is this a new report?

No

System Info

Linux void 7.X

Package(s) Affected

linux

Does a report exist for this bug with the project's home (upstream) and/or another distro?

Ubuntu and Arch works fine.

Expected behaviour

Wi-Fi / Bluetooth working.

Actual behaviour

No Bluetooth, nor Wi-Fi, on usage of "ip link" the device is not to be seen. Also, the void-installer doesn't seem to work too, because of the problem itself.

Steps to reproduce

On a HP Victus 15 B82wjea; upon debugging, it seems that the required CONFIG_RTW89_8852BTE is not set, which the Realtek RTL8852BE-VT Wi-Fi adapter requires.

!!!The 6.18 kernel has been fixed!!!, but the latest mainline kernel, and the x86 glibc ISOs don't have a patch yet, making the installation impossible without external hardware.

Research direction

Start by comparing the latest Void linux kernel configuration with the 6.18 kernel and the Ubuntu and Arch configurations, focusing on CONFIG_RTW89_8852BTE. Then inspect how the latest mainline kernel and x86 glibc ISOs are built. Done means the required configuration is present and the RTL8852BE-VT Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices appear on the affected HP Victus 15.
