Description
On most distros, when using a KDE Plasma, there is an integrated notification applet that appears when package updates are available. It is usually integrated with the Discover application. This would be a convenient way to get notified about and keep your system up to date also in Void, and with Discover you would get the benefit of all the features for browsing packages (but that should maybe be a separate PR-issue) already available.
I had a discussion with some people on IRC a while ago that I unfortunately forgot to write down, but someone said that you would possibly only have to implement the back-end link to xbps from some other package. Hoping it might help in considering where to start. Edit: I think it was called something like "AppStream".

Research direction
No source files, tests, or entry points are identified. First determine whether a KDE Plasma or Discover backend can integrate with xbps, and clarify whether the requested scope is the notification applet, an AppStream backend, or both; done should be a defined, working integration for Void package updates.
