Description

https://github.com/vmware/pyvmomi/issues/960
Hi! I have the same problem with vCenter 7.0u3f. Do you have any solutions to this problem?
If you believe the documentation, then this field should not be validated or changed by vCenter in any way, but as I see it, this is not the case. I set the value, but as a result I get an empty string.

Research direction

Start by reviewing the linked pyvmomi issue 960 and the VMware VirtualEthernetCard documentation referenced in the report. Compare the documented externalId behavior with the reported vCenter 7.0u3f result, then determine what reproducible evidence or project change would define the issue as resolved.
