Description
In vcenter_addvmk.py - Function
def state_create_vmk_host(module):
if service_type:
host.configManager.virtualNicManager.SelectVnicForNicType(service_type, vmk)
where service_type can be any of the following
'faultToleranceLogging',
'vmotion',
'vSphereReplication',
'vSphereReplicationNFC',

Only faultToleranceLogging, vmotion and management seem to work.

Research direction
Start in vcenter_addvmk.py at state_create_vmk_host and inspect how service_type is passed to SelectVnicForNicType. Compare the listed service types with the three that currently work, then verify that assigning vsan to a VMkernel adapter succeeds; the issue is done when the unsupported service assignments work consistently.
