Description

In vijava lib, there's a very handy class, called InventoryNavigator.

Basically, it allows you to search managed entities by type and returns a properly casted object.

 InventoryNavigator(self.rootFolder).searchManagedEntity("DistributedVirtualPortgroup", name)

It would be great if pyvmomi provided something like this as well.

Here's the code for reference:

Research direction

Read the referenced vijava InventoryNavigator implementation and inspect pyvmomi's managed-entity bindings around rootFolder. Define how searching by entity type and name should work and how results should be typed. Done means pyvmomi provides an equivalent inventory-search capability for calls such as searchManagedEntity("DistributedVirtualPortgroup", name).
