Description

Describe the bug

Error on boot of Photon 5.0 GA on VMware Workstation 17

image

and installation stops dead.

Photon 5.0 GA OVA does work as expected

Reproduction steps
  1. Start VMware Workstation 17
  2. New Virtual Machine, select 64-bit Photon as OS
  3. Attach ISO image photon-minimal-5.0-dde71ec57.x86_64.iso or photon-5.0-dde71ec57.x86_64.iso
  4. Boot the VM
    ...
Expected behavior

I expected the Photon OS iso to boot and allow installation of Photon 5.0 to a new VM

Additional context

This also fails on the previous ISOs (Beta) as well

The VMware workstation version is 17.0.2 build-21581411

Research direction

Reproduce the failure in VMware Workstation 17 using both the minimal and full Photon 5.0 GA ISOs, following the listed VM setup steps; compare this with the working OVA. Done means the ISO boots and permits installation in a new VM, with the boot error and affected ISO versions identified.
