Description

  • I am on the latest Hyper.app version
  • I have searched the issues of this repo and believe that this is not a duplicate

Issue

The application gets really slow, most noticeable with typing delay, when running on an external monitor. Works fine as long it's run on the laptop display (Razer blade 14 in case it matters). I've seen this mentioned in other tickets, but never properly diagnosed or fixed, all tickets are closed and this still happens.

I'm pretty sure that this is related with GPU acceleration, since this is not the only app with the same behavior, the same happens with Firefox for example. The thing is, any other app with this same issue I'm able to fix it by running the application with the discrete graphics card:

Doing this on Hyper opens the application and it shows a black rectangle, nothing on it. I can move it around, resize it, but it never show any content. This makes Hyper unusable right now with on demand gpu acceleration, since by default it's slow on external monitors, and enabling gpu rendering (the usual fix) doesn't work.

Let me know if I can share any other piece of information to help solve this. Thanks.

Research direction

No source files or tests are named. Start by reproducing the issue on Ubuntu 21.10 with an external monitor and Nvidia on-demand graphics, comparing the laptop display and discrete-GPU launch; done means Hyper renders normally without typing delay or a black window.
