Maybe you should provide other form of APIs for the select
CheckBoxGroup<Person> xyz = new CheckBoxGroup<>();
xyz.setItems(service.getEntries());
xyz.select(service.getEntries()); // No luck :'(
service.getEntries().forEach(xyz::select); //Only way of doing it
