Description

It may be mandated by posix, but having a specific --long-option-to-disable-total-line would certainly please a lot of people, seeing questions about that subject often pop up on SE, SO, SU, and other such sites...

When I want to know sizes, I use du, the "total line" may not show exactly the same info as du, but it's more often than not a distraction and lost visual space, for me.

Research direction

Start with the Rust implementation and option handling for the ls command, then reproduce the current total-line output and review how related options are tested. Done means a clearly named option suppresses that line without changing other ls output, with coverage for the new behavior.
