Description

util/run-gnu-test.sh is killing my ssh connection on Ubuntu 22.04.

Perhaps default to run it in the background and have a log file to tail? Ideas welcome.

I have also noticed significant differences between bash and zsh. Perhaps also have an option to run the GNU tests under several shells?

Research direction

Start by reading util/run-gnu-test.sh and reproducing the SSH disconnection on Ubuntu 22.04. Compare its behavior under bash and zsh, then determine how background execution and log tailing should work. Done should prevent the SSH connection from being killed; broader multi-shell support needs a clear decision.
