Description

Hi, uutils mainteners

that is a bug with the uu installs we confirmed

relunsec@relunsec:~/software/coreutils/target/debug$ echo "test" > a
relunsec@relunsec:~/software/coreutils/target/debug$ mkdir -p z/
relunsec@relunsec:~/software/coreutils/target/debug$ ./install -g 1000 -t z a a

while the gnu install errors out

relunsec@relunsec:~/software/coreutils/target/debug$ gnuinstall -g 1000 -t z a a
gnuinstall: will not overwrite just-created 'z/a' with 'a'
relunsec@relunsec:~/software/coreutils/target/debug$

Research direction

Start by reproducing the ./install -g 1000 -t z a a command from the issue and compare it with gnuinstall. Locate the install implementation and its tests, then make the behavior match GNU install by rejecting an attempt to overwrite the just-created z/a with a.
