Description

Describe the bug

Tiling some windows like Firefox take two or more tiling actions to properly align them to the selected area.
Happens on occasion and its difficult to reproduce.

Steps To Reproduce

  1. Disable gnome's shortcuts for tiling.
  2. Enable tiling-assistant on Extension Manager.
  3. Use firefox for a while, maybe in private browsing window.
  4. Watch a youtube video or use github ( I swear to god its random )
  5. Tile to a corner or side, the firefox window should almost center itself at the corner or side you wanted it ( but its still not perfectly tiled ), then you have to press the hotkey a second or even third time for it to properly set the window position and size.

System Info:

  • Distro (incl. version):
    NAME="Fedora Linux"
    VERSION="43 (Workstation Edition)"
  • GNOME Shell version: 49
  • Extension version and from where (e. g. EGO, main branch...): tiling-assistant@leleat-on-github main
  • XOrg/Wayland: Wayland

Research direction

Start by reproducing the intermittent behavior with Firefox on Wayland under GNOME Shell 49, following the listed tiling steps. Run journalctl -fo cat /usr/bin/gnome-shell while reproducing it and use the resulting evidence to define completion as consistent single-keypress tiling without the window being mispositioned or mis-sized.
