Description
There should be possible to automatically propagate some values (e.g. correlation ids) from parent to its children. I propose to make this the default behavior of put, and to add putLocal which should be used to add span-local values.

Research direction
The issue does not name files or tests. Start by locating the span API and its existing put behavior, then determine how parent and child spans represent values. Done means put propagates values to child spans by default, putLocal provides span-local values, and the behavior is covered by tests.
