Description

Would it be possible to add option to activate a child span?

In datadog APM, the dd-java-agent is injecting the headers to my http client requests automatically from current active span. Since only the root span is active the requests are made as children of that instead of the other child spans I've created manually in the app.

Research direction

No file or test is named in the issue. Start by locating the span activation API and the HTTP header propagation path; done means an explicitly activated child span is used as the active context for outgoing requests rather than only the root span.
