Description

If you try to convert following texts:

text1 = "aaa bbb<ccc ddd"
text2 = "aaa bbb< ccc ddd"

the results are not consistent

aaa bbb<ccc ddd

aaa bbb< ccc ddd

and results in bad escaping of the less-then symbol in text1.

Research direction

Start by reproducing the conversion with the two text examples in the issue and trace how markdown2 handles the less-than symbol in each case. Done means both inputs escape the symbol consistently in the generated paragraph output.
