Description

I recently switched from gnome-terminal to hyper, and decided to give this a try. I had tried previously on gnome-terminal before I saw it was unsupported (see #778), so I thought this would work better. Instead of some characters not appearing, no ligatures worked at all. Here's a screenshot of some failed ligatures:

Update: I just tried XTerm, the same exact thing happens.

Update 2: Those coming here about XTerm, it is under unsupported: #778 After some more research, disabling WebGL and adding quotes around Fira Code works, but Fira Code Retina still does not work.

Research direction

Reproduce the report with Fira Code Retina in Hyper and XTerm, testing WebGL enabled and disabled and the quoted font-family workaround described in the body. Done means determining whether the ligatures render or documenting that the behavior belongs to the unsupported terminal setups; no repository file or test is named.
