Research direction

Start by reproducing the Apple VFL example "->=0-" with FiraCode and compare it with the expected "-≥0-" rendering. Trace the programming-ligature behavior responsible for the sequence, then verify that the output renders as the expected glyph sequence without changing unrelated ligatures.
