Description

The 1 glyph seems much less "clean" than other digits of this font, due to its significant serifs.

Compared with droid-sans, most of the numbers look very similar, with the exceptions of 0 (FiraCode defaults to a slashed one), 4 (FiraCode is open, which I prefer) and 1 (droid-sans doesn't have any serifs).

Besides my preference for the sans-serif look of the 1 glyph, I also think a sans-serif version would be more distinguishable from similar glyphs (l, i), which all do have serifs.

Would it be possible to add a sans-serif version of the 1 glyph as a character variant? If so, should it become the default due to the distinguishability advantage I mentioned?

Research direction

The issue concerns the 1 glyph and proposes a sans-serif character variant, comparing it with Droid Sans and FiraCode. Start by reviewing the project's existing glyph-variant conventions; done would require a decision on whether the variant is feasible and whether it should become the default.
