Does not appear to fetch mail on the specified poll interval of 24h

Steps to reproduce

I have a couple of Gmail accounts and another IMAP account configured in Thunderbird. If I manually check for new messages, it works, the accounts are configured correctly.

I also have it configured to fetch mail on a 24h poll interval (these accounts are not that important, I just want TB to check them once in a while). The Inbox for all these accounts has sync enabled, but no push. Notifications are enabled everywhere I could find a setting in the app and also in the OS app settings.

Issue: I never get notified of new mail, it doesn't look like the 24h poll interval works, I have to manually refresh the accounts to see new mail.

Expected behavior

Check every 24h and notify of new mail.

Actual behavior

No new mail notifications, it doesn't appear that the 24h interval check works.

Start by reproducing the 24-hour polling scenario on Thunderbird for Android 8.2 with Gmail and IMAP accounts, using the listed Android 15 and Pixel 9 setup where possible. Compare manual refresh with scheduled checks and notifications; done means new mail is checked and notifications appear at the configured interval. The issue names no source files or tests and provides no logs.
