App version

6.801

Where did you get the app from?

F-Droid

Android version

9

Device model

OnePlus 5t

Steps to reproduce
  1. Go to any message with long wrapped lines.
  2. Observer lines being wrapped.
  3. Go to Hamburger -> Settings -> General settings -> Display
  4. De-select Auto-fit messages
  5. Navigate back to the message with the long lines.
  6. Observe that nothing has changed.
Expected behavior

Wrapping lines is a vital feature that cannot be omitted.
Some messages need to be line-wrapped, for example when a long text is sent by a human.
Other messages need to be kept intact, in case there is a plain-text table embedded into this message.
(Which are plentiful in various reports.)

Auto-fit messages seem to be implementing this feature, but it does not work.

Actual behavior

No visible change after selecting/de-selecting Auto-fit messages

Research direction

Reproduce the issue in a message with long wrapped lines using app version 6.801 on Android 9, then inspect Hamburger → Settings → General settings → Display and the message display behavior. The work is done when selecting and de-selecting “Auto-fit messages” produces the expected change between wrapped and intact lines.
