Problem you are trying to solve
I sent an email to the wrong mailing address on the same mailserver. Thereby it got stuck in my outbox.
I opened the mail from within my outbox.
I wanted to edit the mail to replace the correct mail address.
I pressed the pencil in mistake and thereby opened a new empty mail.
Suggested solution
I then realized that the pencil is never used for editing messages and always for writing new ones.
But I expected there to be a different button as the first option, one to edit the message (atleast in-case sending it results in an error).
The button to move the mail back to drafts, so I can edit it, was behind the three dot menu.
My suggestion would be to place a different button there that sends the message to drafts. Instead of hiding it behind the three dot menu.
This would require a new icon though and sending it to drafts has no visual feedback, so it might need to automatically open the mail for editing when you click it. else people would be confused thinking k9 deleted their mail 😅
Even if this won't be implemented, I wanted to let you know, that the layout confused me.
It's not a feature that is used often and I now know how to use it and don't require a fix.

Research direction
No source files or tests are named. Start by reproducing the outbox flow on Android, then inspect the pencil action and the three-dot menu used to move a message to drafts. Done means the edit or move-to-drafts action is discoverable and its result is clear to the user.
