Problem you are trying to solve
In 6.000 changelog you have:
- Don't create notifications when manually refreshing the message list
With 5.8, I liked having the notification of new messages and the list of new incoming messages in the notification.
With 6.000 on manual check of new emails there is no more notification. And my use case is always manual check. I have disabled periodic check for all accounts.
Actually, what I do is open K9, do the manual check, and immediately go back to another app or just leave the phone without waiting. Therefore, the notification tells me that there is a new message without having to wait.
Suggested solution
Add an option to show notification also on manual check.

Research direction
Start by reviewing the 6.000 changelog entry and the manual message-list refresh behavior. Trace how notifications are suppressed during a manual check, then add a user option that restores them; done means a manual check can produce a new-message notification when enabled.
