Description
Instead of forcing the user to select which folders to show at the top, why not show the x (5? 10?) most used folders?
These folders could change with time without the user having to change the settings.
This is what the Gmail app currently does (5 most used folders).
In the beginning, we could show the x last used folders, then refine it to show the most used ones.
The folder usage statistics could be used to automatically set which folders should use sync or push (see also #2669).

Research direction
Start by reviewing the existing folder-selection settings and how folder usage, sync, and push behavior are represented. Compare the proposal with issue #2669; done requires an agreed definition of x and a clear decision on whether to begin with last-used folders or automatically selected most-used folders.
