Description

🎯 Create More User-Friendly Notification Settings

Our reviews mentioning issues with notifications are rated slightly better than those mentioning the methods for enabling and controlling notifications. Notification settings are scattered, hidden, and push-styled IMAP IDLE notifications do not have an easily accessed entry point. We have to enable push settings manually, per account, and per folder.

The aim of this project is to support users who want to access all the notification features we currently offer in an easier way by addressing settings with poorly thought-out designs, in order to improve access to and knowledge of these features. Success will be measured by achieving better ratings in the Google Play store indicating users are happy with our changes.

🎒 Resources

🦮 Rules of the Road

🟢 In Scope
  • Updating settings to improve user customization and access to notification settings
  • Adding new settings to give users greater control of their notifications, syncing, and fetching
🔴 Out of Scope
  • Changes to how we do sync and notifications or bug fixes. Those are handled in separate milestones(refactor, bug fixes)
🚧 Technical and/or Business Requirements
  • We may need to confer with design and support for a few of these changes to ensure users are likely to prefer them.
  • We will likely need to introduce new settings variables to store user options, including new options or changes to the location of existing options
