  • I will describe the problem with as much detail as possible.
App

Thunderbird for Android

App version

18.0

Where did you get the app from?

Google Play

Android version

16

Device model

Samsung Galaxy S23

Steps to reproduce
  1. Hold the phone ion portrait mode
  2. Open/display a message
  3. Rotate the phone to landscape
  4. Now the message body isn't displayed
  5. Scroll a bit
  6. The message body appears

It doesn't seem to happen with all messages. I can reproduce it (at least) with larger messages that have a large text-only body.

Not sure if it matters. But "General settings > Display > Show split-screen" is set to 'Never'.

Expected behavior

The message body appears immediately after rotating the phone.

Actual behavior

The message only appears after scrolling in the body.

Research direction

Start by reproducing the issue in Thunderbird for Android 18.0 on Android 16 with a large text-only message, rotating from portrait to landscape and scrolling only after checking the blank body. Trace the message display behavior during orientation changes; done means the body appears immediately after rotation without scrolling.
