- I will describe the problem with as much detail as possible.
App
Thunderbird for Android
App version
17.0
Where did you get the app from?
F-Droid
Android version
14
Device model
No response
Steps to reproduce
- Login with a microsoft edu school email in linux and it would get approved normally
- Now try to login with the same edu account with the android app you will get this error:
Expected behavior
To have same approval mechanism in both linux and android. As I think that android version is requesting more permissions to the account then the linux one therefore it got denied
Actual behavior
Failed to login unlike the linux client.
Logs
I tried to remove the account from the linux client and relogin but it didn't show any extrnal aproval page. as it used the old credentials I think.
I am not sure how to remove the account completely with its approval credentials so I could investigate more.

Research direction
Start by reproducing the Microsoft school-account login on Thunderbird for Android 17.0 with Android 14, then compare its requested permissions and approval flow with the Linux client. The issue names no source file or test, so trace the Android login path and capture the differing permission request; done means the same account approval behavior is verified or the discrepancy is isolated.
