Similar but not the same as: https://github.com/thunderbird/thunderbird-android/issues/8520 - I will describe the problem with as much detail as possible.
App
Thunderbird for Android
App version
14.0
Where did you get the app from?
Google Play
Android version
16.0
Device model
Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra
Steps to reproduce
- Open Thunderbird Desktop (v146.0.1) and navigate to Tools > Export/Import via QR.
- Start Thunderbird for Android (v14.0).
- Select "Import Settings" > "Scan QR Code".
- Grant Camera permissions when prompted.
- Point the device camera at the QR code displayed on the Desktop monitor.
Expected behavior
The app should recognize the QR code immediately, parse the data, and begin the import process.
Actual behavior
The camera view is visible and active (not black), but the app provides no response. It does not scan the code, regardless of distance or angle. No error message is displayed.
Logs
No visible error logs/toast messages in the UI.
Description When attempting to import settings from Thunderbird Desktop to Thunderbird for Android using the QR Code feature, the Android app camera view is active but fails to recognize or react to the QR code. The app remains on the scanning screen indefinitely with no error message, success indicator, or timeout.
Environment
Desktop OS: Windows 11
Thunderbird Desktop Version: 146.0.1 (64-bit)
Additional Context
QR Code Validity: Confirmed the QR code is valid by scanning it with the Samsung native Camera app (which successfully decodes the URI).
Permissions: Camera permission is explicitly granted in Android settings.
Network: Both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Visuals: The QR code was displayed in "Light Mode" on the desktop (high contrast).

Research direction
Start at the Android Import Settings > Scan QR Code entry point and reproduce the issue using Thunderbird Desktop's Tools > Export/Import via QR flow. Confirm that the valid QR code is recognised, its data is parsed, and the import begins with visible feedback instead of remaining on the scanning screen.
