New mail notifications not working

Steps to reproduce

1. Click on the 3 line icon on the top left of the app
2. Click "Manage Folders"
3. Click on "Inbox"
4. Select "Enable sync", "Enable push", and "Enable notifications"
5. Give Thunderbird access to alarms
6. Optionally hide the persistent notification

Expected behavior

When the email account I use with Thunderbird receives a new email, I should receive a notification that an email has been received.

Actual behavior

I do not receive a notification. The persistent notification says "Waiting for new emails" but does not change when there is a new email. The only way I can see that I have received new mail is if I open the app.
