gmail help wanted modernization

Current article: Thunderbird and Gmail

  • Update screenshots to Supernova or newer
  • Update to use Application Menu instead of File > blah :-) i.e. Instead of #[[T:optionspreferences TB]] use Click {menu ≡} > {menu Settings}
  • Update other SSO articles (probably want to file other issues for Yahoo mail for example)
  • In june or whenever gmail makes this change, make the relevant changes for in June 2024, the option to choose “Enable IMAP” or “Disable IMAP” won't be available. IMAP access is always turned on in Gmail, and your current connections to other email clients aren’t affected. You don’t need to take any action.
  • Remove reference to Lightning article: i.e. If you want to sync your calendar between Thunderbird Calendar and Google Calendar, you should read [Using Lightning with Google Calendar](https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/using-lightning-google-calendar).
  • Add relevant stuff from Google's Transition from less secure apps to OAuth QUOTE: Starting September 30, 2024, Google Workspace accounts will only allow access to apps using OAuth. Password-based access (with the exception of App Passwords) will no longer be supported. POP and IMAP are NOT going away and can still be enabled with apps that connect using OAuth. <-- UPDATE 03September2024: According to Forbes, September 30 is not a "fake" :-) deadline: New Gmail App Access Password Deadline—You Have 4 Weeks To Comply
  • Clarify as per David's comment in topicbox: I did do a brief check by installing an IMAP Gmail account to see what the default is. AllMail is subscribed bydefault, and unsubscribing does remove the folder. The current writeup does recommend unsubscribing, but does not explain why. That might be helpful.
