Description
This morning I setup a selfhosted mastodon server just to play with it. In the Administration section there's a box for CSS appearance changes (much like jellyfin).
It looks like the UI elements are reasonably well documented.

Research direction
Start by reviewing Mastodon's Administration CSS appearance box and the linked guide on custom CSS. Compare the repository's existing themes to understand its conventions. Done would mean a complete Mastodon theme integrated consistently with the project, but the issue does not specify the target selectors, files, or visual scope.
