Description
It looks like DockerComposeContainer tries to prefetch images defined in docker-compose.yml but it doesn't render the compose-file properly. It doesn't substitute env-vars. When the compose file is executed then the substitution works fine (same as running it directly with docker-compose).

Research direction
Start by locating DockerComposeContainer's image pre-fetch path and how it reads docker-compose.yml; compare it with normal docker-compose execution for environment-variable substitution. Add a regression test covering an environment variable in an image reference and verify that pre-fetch resolves it consistently.
