Description

The debian/ubuntu packages are currently generated on a launchpad ppa

But there is some limitations with it it seems, it seems I am the only one who is able to push for new release (while all setup seems fine) and we can only target latest, most oss projects are using the Suse build service these days for this :

https://openbuildservice.org/

and it probably could be a better place for building our debian packages and other non fedora/redhat packages

Research direction

Start by reviewing the existing Debian/Ubuntu package generation through the linked Launchpad PPA and the Open Build Service documentation linked in the issue. Compare the current release permissions and target-version limitations with a possible OBS workflow; done means a concrete, working plan for building and releasing the packages.
