Description

This issue is meant to track Stride's compatibility with Proton and Wine.

Current state

Last checked with 4.3.0.2507

Running Stride games built for Windows through Proton will result in them silently crashing in the GUI. Users may find a way to get them running by fiddling with their systems, but that is far from the "one-click" solution that most would expect when running a game like that.

Workaround (for developers)

Creating a native version of a game would remove the need for using Proton. However for games made with a version older than 4.4, Linux support isn't as solid so it might be really difficult or impossible to fully support the platform.

For project using 4.4+, this is more manageable, but it's not a silver bullet. Supporting another platform takes resources that some developers would prefer to allocate for other things.

Workaround (for players)

Research direction

No source files or tests are named. Start by reproducing the silent crash for a Windows-built Stride game under Proton or Wine, then inspect the resulting logs and compatibility behavior. Done is not defined beyond improving Proton/Wine compatibility and providing a player-facing workaround.
